MISSING IN ACTION: The positive to come out of the Sea Eagles’ loss to Canterbury last Friday night is they didn’t pick up any injuries out of the game despite the sheer physicality of it. FORM: The Sea Eagles are still considered by many as serious contenders to defend their premiership title, but a couple of losses on the trot has them precariously placed in seventh position. They were involved in one of the games of the season against the top-of-the-table Bulldogs last Friday night and despite going down 20-12, it was a much-improved effort on the debacle in Newcastle the week previous.
There were 15,000 fans on hand at Mt Smart Stadium last Saturday evening hoping to witness a desperate Warriors team make a genuine attempt to re-enter the top-eight against a side below them on the ladder. They scored three unanswered tries in the opening 16 minutes against a shell-shocked Newcastle, but relaxed in the 10 minutes leading up to half-time and took that same mentality into the second stanza, eventually going down 24-19. Despite the loss, they remain just one win out of the eight, but have been joined by four other sides on 20 competition points.
