MISSING IN ACTION: Retiring Warriors forward Micheal Luck suffered a shoulder injury last week and is out for an indefinite period, allowing Steve Rapira a spot on the bench. The Warriors are missing five players through injury, including winger Manu Vatuvei (knee – Round 21) and former Kiwi Test forward Sam Rapira (elbow – Round 26).
The Titans have named one of their strongest sides of the year, although a lot will depend on whether Greg Bird and Nate Myles can successfully back up from Wednesday night’s Origin decider. The club is definitely without injured QLD Origin back-rower Ashley Harrison (foot), but the return of full-back William Zillman (hamstring) centre Beau Champion (ankle), co-skipper Luke Bailey (ribs) and prop Matt White (tonsillitis) gives the Gold Coast a solid look for this important match.
FORM: The Warriors ripped the under-strength Cowboys apart at times last Sunday and at 16-0 up after 14 minutes; they seemed on track for a massive win. But a combination of complacency and sheer incompetence allowed North Queensland back into the contest and the Warriors didn’t really seal the game until late. The Warriors remain two points shy of eighth position.
The Titans had a few injury problems leading up to the bye last weekend, but it appears the week’s rest has had a positive effect, with several players fit and ready for the Warriors’ challenge on Saturday night. Despite missing a host of players, the Titans were more than competitive in their 8-6 loss to the Dragons last start. They have also been impressive at home of late, racking up 64 points in their last two Skilled Park clashes.
