MISSING IN ACTION: The Titans will field a much stronger line-up this week, with the expected return of co-skipper Scott Prince at half-back and QLD Origin trio Ashley Harrison, Greg Bird and Nate Myles. Unfortunately, the Titans’ other captain, Luke Bailey, is out for three weeks with rib damage. Debutant full-back Jamie Dowling performed strongly in his debut last week, but has been omitted, alongside Steve Michaels.
The Panthers should be boosted by the return of Origin trio Luke Lewis, Tim Grant and Michael Jennings, but the big news at the foot of the mountains is the axing of full-back Lachlan Coote. The gutsy custodian was put on notice by coach Ivan Cleary for attitude issues just prior to Monday night’s match and his poor performance against the Warriors sealed the deal in terms of his non-selection for this game. Impressive winger Josh Mansoor moves to the vacant full-back spot, handing former Rooster Sandor Earl a start on the wing.
FORM: The Titans’ winning streak ended at three
games last Sunday after going down to the Sharks by 10 points at Toyota
Stadium. They were decimated in the forwards, missing their three Origin
reps on top of the absence of veteran Luke Bailey. This is where the
Sharks dominated, but effort was still there which must be a pleasing
sign for Gold Coast fans.
The Panthers bounced back from some early misfortune to take a 16-12 lead in the break against the Warriors last Monday, but their second-half performance was less than impressive, eventually surrendering the match by 14-points. Further losses over the next couple of weeks will just about put Penrith’s 2012 finals chances to bed. They are in desperate need of premiership points.
