MISSING IN ACTION: Nathan Friend’s broken jaw will keep him out of action for six weeks according to the Warriors medical staff, not that it stopped him playing a full game last week against the Broncos. Kevin Locke underwent a rigorous fitness test on Wednesday to test whether he is over his sternum injury. He is joined on the sidelines by Glen Fisiiahi and Sam Rapira, while Michael Luck continues to remain in the stands with a shoulder injury.
Brian Smith has resisted making any changes after their side’s comprehensive 24-6 victory over the Knights. Jack Bosden has been brought into the side as the 18th man.
FORM: Consecutive 10-day turnarounds look to have given the Warriors the kick in the backside they needed. Despite going down heavily to the Melbourne Storm (14-32) at AAMI Park two weeks ago they were well in the match until they faded in the last 10 minutes. They took the positives from that game and sprinkled it throughout their stunning 30-20 win over the Broncos that was more comprehensive than the scoreboard indicated. If ever there was an air of confidence for the home side, it’s right now.
They trail their 2002 Grand Final opponents by two competition points. The Chooks are one of six teams on 10 points, but their points differential of -48 has them just out of the eight. While they have won three of their last five matches, the two defeats couldn’t have been more contrasting. Their Round 7 12-50 humbling at the hands of the Cowboys was backed up by a four-point defeat to the Dragons a week later. They have one distinct advantage over their Kiwi opponents – they’ve already scored consecutive victories this season and are aiming for the second lot of wins in a row in 2012.
